LAHORE: The Agri-Forum Pakistan Chairman Muhammad Ibrahim Mughal has alleged that Pakistan’s trade deficit with India was Rs 15 billion, before it was declared the Most Favoured Nation (MFN). It has now climbed to Rs 127 billion per annum.
‘This shows the success of the Indian lobby in Pakistan and should be taken as an eye opener by the Pakistani nation,’ Mughal said while talking to media persons here on Saturday.
He said that Pakistan should only hold serious talks with India if it agrees to immediately resolve the water issues in accordance with the 1961 international treaties and the Kashmir issue in line with the UNO resolutions.
Mughal said that the FICCI’s (India’s largest trade body organization) advice to its Prime Minister for using water as a weapon against Pakistan reflects Indian mentality.
And that the aim of India includes destroying the economy, agriculture, industries and infrastructure of Pakistan.
The Agri Forum Chief said that India should immediately stop building all the controversial dams, and agree to jointly control the water shed area and acknowledge Pakistan from its heart as a sovereign country. He warned that India wanted to increase the trade deficit of Pakistan with it to Rs 400 billion in the next five years.
He said that the first Pakistani government should bring the prices of fertilizers, seed, pesticides, diesel, electricity and food at par with India then it should go for trade with India. ‘At present a bag of fertilizer in India is Rs 275 only, which is available in Pakistan at Rs 1750. In such a situation, we will only destroy our economy by trading with India,’ Mughal warned.

FICCI doesn't give such suggesstions  it is strictly professional organization for trade between two nations..It is the job of RAW and no one can mess with their job not even FICCI..

And if pakistan had trade deficit of Rs 127bn per annum with India and it destroys your agriculture, economy, industries and infrastructure then what the hell that 3-4 times higher trade deficit with china is doing ?? Helping your GDP growth ??

If i bought rice from a farmer than there will be a trade deficit so i will go to the market to buy my essentials ..who cares how much money i spend when that farmer is not getting anything from me .. Thats the logic i am getting here ..

Pakistan will give MFN status to India by the end of this year. It will be deemed given automatically once they switchover from positive to negative list and then reduce the negative list.

Well if the price of fertilizers drop in pakistan ....its a win win situation for both !!..its the same for all agricultural products!!!......Seems this mughals guy's monopoly is going to affected by indian imports !!

Money going in and out is nothing ...just ask/Demand a stable investment plan. And promoting Pakistani investor friendliness is the first step.

If Pakistan is growing even at 10% growth and the economy is lets say 300bil Pakistan only needs an investment of 30+ billion each year to maintain this growth( assuming the investment will scale up respectively each year).

Those tilling the land should stick with the land, does he even know what he's talking about.

Isn't he the same guy who said that Pakistan should import fertilizers and diesel from India because its cheaper

In the same way we can argue that our agriculture sector is heavily subsidized .. Why should we export it in comparatively lower cost to another country ? It is as good as giving subsidy to other countries ..govt should tax exporting agri products so as to retrieve the subsidized money .. But i am not seeing any protest in india !
He has a point when he says farmers from pakistan cannot compete with the price of indian products as it is subsidized but if he cannot give guarantee of providing two meals to poor citizen of the country he should be happy that they are getting it from another source for reduced cost
