KARACHI:
Despite persistent apprehensions and over 65 years of uncertain political ties between India and Pakistan, Indian businessmen firmly believe that things can now move faster in the right direction as the two sides want to push forward their relations, especially in trade and commerce.

“If you especially look at the progress in the last 10 months, you will notice that India and Pakistan have moved too fast in economic relations,” said Kiran Vohra, a leading Indian businessman and Director of Forbes Marshall Private Limited, while speaking to members of the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) on Thursday.
“With this accelerated pace, I have no doubt that the two neighbours can achieve the bilateral trade target of over $10 billion in next few years,” he said.
Vohra, whose company provides solutions in energy efficiency and process automation, was of the view that the high number of business delegations visiting each other’s country indicated that economic relations would grow strongly in coming years.
“Once our businessmen start trading with each other, you will see a huge jump in bilateral trade,” said Vohra, who is leading a 17-member delegation of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII). “Present trade volume of around $2.5 billion is nothing keeping in view the real trade potential of the two countries.”
Trade and commerce would grow faster if the two governments made visa process easier for businessmen and general public, he suggested.
CII is a non-government, not-for-profit, industry-led and industry-managed organisation. Founded over 117 years ago, today it is India’s premier business association with direct membership of over 7,100 organisations.

The delegation members said they were not in Pakistan to just explore the export market, but they were also looking for possible imports and joint ventures that would equally help both the neighbours.
One of the delegation members, Rajiv Kumar, Head Exports of Escorts Limited, the makers of farm machinery and tractors, announced that his company was ready to work with Pakistani counterparts.

He said his company exported tractors to 60 countries and it was ready to host farm machinery producers of Pakistan in India to find out the possibility of collaboration.
Wipro Consumer Care and Lighting Head of Sales Priyadarshi Ranjan said his company was the third largest soapmaker in India. “We are here to search for good business partners. We are also looking at ways to invest and produce our products in Pakistan. We are also ready to transfer technology to Pakistan,” said Ranjan.
HPCL-Mittal Energy Head of Logistics and MIS Marketing Pradeep Kumar Inani said his company wanted to export petroleum products to Pakistan through the Wagah land route – the closest road link where the company has recently set up a state-of-the-art refinery near the Attari border of India.

We are such clowns. We have a 180 million market right beside us. Those people who eat the same as us, who watch same tv shows us and speak the same language and would love to use our products. Man I would say that even if India has to sarifice something do it but trade with neighbours is extremely important for South Asia.

And you Pakistanis are getting a market of 1.2 billion for your products, what else do you want??? India is today at the centre of the world only because of its booming middle class. If I was an economist of Pakistan I would certainly open it up to India.

Not really, the trade is too one-sided in favour of India.

Pakistan should only have a barter trade with India......

That one sided trade will help your country in the long run. Because either your companies have to be competitive or Indian companies will kill them. But I believe Pakistani businessmen are shrewd and soon Pakistani companies will be able to compete with Indian companies.

Moreover it will also Push Pakistan toward better policy environment. For example, when Import bill of China to India for electronics has reached 40 bill it has prompted India to launch its own Electronics policy. In 5 yrs we could possibly go head on with Chinese in electronics, just like we do in automobiles and services. It is only because of High Chinese imports we decided "enough" we need our own modems, lcd, leds, pc and laptops.

Finally, I would say we humans are indeed worse than animals, we will kill each other if we don't depend on each other.

Business, Trade and money is so tempting that it is not so easy to decline it....Both from the business people from India and Pakistan....Just a note...India is not asking to shun your enmity to India, rather you are welcome with youur enemity attitude....but during the meantime, what is wrong if we can do some trade with each other and also make a good amount of Profit out of it....That is why i advocate that in spite of the situation in PAKISTAN, India should send cricket team to Pakistan. Believe me or not it will give a huge revenue and benefit to both BCCI and PCB......

India and Pakistan are in a same situation where Europe was there around 300 year back. Each nation in Europe was dead against with each other...Even now also, people to people level relation is not sound as we perceive.....But because of the trade between each other....they are one of the strongest economic power in this world.

In General every year our trade deficit rises. So, no matter who earns more people must get some benefits. We should open the trade to counter all sugar, flour and other mafia.

Pakistani Textile industry would gain a lot from this, we saw what happened in made in Pakistan, India earlier this year.

But China is a Friend and you are ENEMY. :D

Our trade deficit with China is because of the Defence Equipoment we want to buy from them.

Nope. Apart from Defence equipment, you have a massive trade deficit.

Secondly, importing from India makes sense because you give a level playing field to all in your market. Currently Pakistan already imports Indian products albeit via Dubai. Same products would be available to Pakistani consumers at a cheaper cost if imported directly from India.

so does india
actually china export is pumped like virus into any country you name :D

Yes even though people here call China India's enemy we still trade with them. In business there are no friends or enemies it is all about profit making, today Chinese companies are setting up business and creating JV in India which is helping India's economy, the trade deficit we have with China is high, though we try to balance out the deficit in trade with them by the surplus in trade with other nations, the surplus is not enough but it works out in our favor, plus now that the government is shifting towards an export/manufacturing based economy we might see some reduction in the deficit since the things we buy from China might be made in India which would reduce the gap in trade.
