As you can see from the forum, the rate and magnitude of militarisation of almost every country on earth is amazing. New weapons, new technology, new ways of fighting, everyday.

Up to now, war has been small-scale and the enemies have been non-professional armies with very basic weaponry.

My question is, at what point do we start using real weapons on each other? Obviously we can't let weapons waste away in storage.

All you have to do is look up to sky and wave your hand to some distant star some one might reply you back. We come in peace

then lay down your arms.

So basically we get a testosterone rush when weapon tests happen. We can all have fun fighting kids with flip flops in the desert with F16's.

and when it comes down to it, we all piss out when talk about a war with an (at least) equally capable force starts.
humans ,hey?

Countries like US think they are big boys because they fighting illiterates in caves. China think they big because they got Uighur in concentration camps, Saudis think they're blessed for blowing up kids in Yemen.

You don't get a medal for (loosing) a war against kids. Military purpose. Defunct.

These sophisticated weapons and newer technologies are basis of avoiding wars in the new and developed world. There is a reason why only smaller weaker countries are targets of these wars.

So if your defense is strong with modern weaponry and disciplined armed forces , you can lay back and relax.

The current trend for weaponry and armament is growing exponentially, small third world countries now have capabilities for mass destruction.

If the trend continues, and it looks like it will, do you think these advancements will be only used as deterrents

Like for example, if North Korea could, without consequence take control of the entire region due to new tech, what would stop them. Same applies to any country. At some point countries are going to get war horny.

It all depends upon intentions, a knife can be used to cut apple or kill some one. I agree some countries like US, Russia have shown aggression , but they can only be kept at bay if one posses strong defense.

take Canada for example, a classically non-aggressive country. Just say hypothetically they had the power and ability and means to take over mainland US, I think they would. It not real world example, but if you give someone enough tech and power they will use it.

Or if Afghanistan magically had the power and tech and ability to take over Asia, they probably would.

The point is with great advancement in tech and weaponry comes the obvious desire to use it, at some point.

i like your question.i think there will be a war.the rise of many super powers like america, china and russia, they can't sit and enjoy warm relations.conflict of interest is war.it will happen soon but destruction would be horrible.we have lessons of world war 2 but it's in the nature of human beings to kill others,to become supreme,to become invincible.united states is still world power but they have no experience against fighting another rising world power.russia is also in great shape.they have large number of nuclear missiles.i think in future conflict, satellites would become victim of missiles.war is not good.war is bad for humanity but it's all about religions,it's all about countries. it's about not crossing the red lines.

Blindness is strong with this one! @Nilgiri show him the light, if you will, please, for he can't see the battlegrounds where every kind of weapon is being used and tested, both lethal and economic sabotage

world has been at war for the past 40 or so years

Most weapons of US and Soviet Union was wasted away in storage, and the main purpose of the advanced weaponry is avert a direct confrontation.

But US has been an aggressive country, and can take over Canada within a day. What is stopping US to take over Canada and claim it's natural resources?

Don't know where to start tbh. He's too broad of a free spirit that guy...I can't bring him down to isolate on some more specific issue .... and go one on one etc (thats more my thing)...and am not sure if its really worth to do so anyway.....so I say let some people just be....they often have other agendas past what they nonchalantly present here.
