Three major airlines GROUNDED across US after computer crash

THREE major US airlines have been grounded after a “system-wide” computer outage.

Delta, United and Southwest Airlines said flights have been affected across the country.

Passengers from other carriers such as American Airlines also said they were stopped at airport gates or left sitting in stationary planes for up to two hours.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) confirmed that several airlines are experiencing issues with a flight-planning programme called Aerodata.

It said: "Several U.S. #airlines are experiencing computer issues this morning.

"Please contact your airline directly for flight information and updates. The #FAA does not cancel flights."

Passengers have been hit with delays at airports in Chicago, New York, Boston, Atlanta, Miami and Detroit.

Delta said to a flyer grounded at North Carolina's Raleigh-Durham airport: "We are currently experiencing a System-Wide Outage we are working diligently to get it back up and running.

"We do not have a specific time as yet."

United said in a statement: "It appears that we are experiencing an outage that is impacting our ability to create release paperwork.

"We know this is frustrating, and we will get you in the air as quickly as possible."

Southwest Airlines said the problem has already been resolved and the systems should soon be back up.
