As a nation we are well aware of exactly how rampant sexual harassment is and has been all over Pakistan, whether it be in the work place or even on the streets. We can criticize and demonize the women at the Aurat March all we want but the truth is that sexual harassment is a very real problem and is no less than an epidemic in society.

This post was shared on Facebook a mere two hours ago and the contents are pretty disturbing. Shafa Subhan Zuberi writes about her experience and begins with a trigger warning because apparently saying the word sexual harassment is worse than actually doing it.
She begins, “Today a friend in lahore was in her university van. The van had stopped to wait for another van opposite Barkat Market. As they were waiting, a man on a bike rode by and flashed the girls in the van. His penis was out and he was masturbating. He went back and forth for about 4-5 minutes looking into the van of girls who had not just not consented to this but were also in their teens.”
She further adds that her friend managed to capture a picture of the perpetrator before he pulled on a mask, “My friend was able to take a picture of him after which he immediately put on his mask. The van driver was on the other side, waiting for the second van. When my friend finally summoned up the courage to say something, he left.”

Shafa then explained something we all need to hear and not brush off as another “Feminist” rant, “Sexual harassment through public masturbation is a very real issue. I’ve seen men do it outside my university. Usually rikshaw walas or bikers. I’ve heard my friends narrate similar incidents. I’ve seen drivers parked outside malls do it.”
She also opened up about her previous experiences with harassment, “When i was younger, i didnt tell anyone because i was scared i would be blamed. Please share this so that hopefully someone can recognize this complete piece of shit and he can at least be humiliated if not have his penis cut off.”
She ended the post with a definite proof in the post’s comments incase some people needed more convincing, “A slightly less censored version is nested in the comments in case any of you have any doubts about whether or not his penis was out.
Men like this need to be publicly castrated.”
Stories like these are why we need to stop curtailing women in the hopes that men will stop.
