At a time when Pakistan finds itself in the news for grisly bombings and asoaring rate in executions, an unexpected angel has swooped in with a message of peace, love and harmony.

Two years after "Eye to Eye" baffled the country by giving birth to a huge cult following, the Pakistani singer Taher Shah returned this weekend with a second music video, "Angel," that has gone viral. Topping Twitter's trending list in India and Pakistan (and ranking third across the globe) and racking up millions of plays, this new classic may cement Shah's position as the world's most unlikely YouTube sensation.

Shah is a businessman from the port city of Karachi and doesn't seem to be a trained singer. His voice and the bizarre aesthetic of the videos have led some to believe that his shtick is an elaborate ruse. For most of the new video, Shah walks around a golf course wearing a tiara and a purple gown (bathrobe?), showing off his chest hair. One of the top commentors on the video for the song joked, "That awkward moment when you think you are an angel, but in reality u r a brinjal," using a common South Asian term for eggplant.

With anything this weird, it is probably good to hold on to a bit of skepticism. But in interviews, and in a blog post on the "ideology" behind "Angel," Shah comes off as a genuine believer in his power to inspire humankind's better side.

"Mankind is a beautiful 'Angel,' " he writes on his blog. "All humans' internal and external elements should be like an 'Angel' and spread their essence like a flower as an 'Angel' along with all of the world's entre [sic] value with respect so all 'Angel' like humans together can make their own and family world heavenly."

Shah's Urdu is immaculate, but his English, which he uses for some publicity and for his lyrics, is the source of much mirth. The two songs are filled with lyrical gems, but one of the most memorable from "Eye to Eye" is: "Without you/I am a butterfly/without fly."

The sudden star looks as if he could be Pavarotti's pudgy nephew, though with lovelier locks of curly hair and without the sonorous voice. His orchestra is made up of synthetic flutes, saxophones and percussion — as if straight from Kenny G's vault.

Well regardless of all the bashing against Mr Tahir shah , his work actually is Music
Even his first song won recognition award for its meaningful lyrics

1) He composes wonderful music , the flute work , and the melody of the song is wonderful
2) The lyrics are meaningful
3) There is Melody

I think the general trend is that his videos / cinematography does not incorporates Models or skinny people or perfect creation of Man kind , therefore he is made fun of

When you take his old work modernize it it is quite acceptable (Remix , with no video)

His original work was heavy on classic Pop style with usage of Saxaphone

People focused on his videos (iMage , and lack of models and dancers )

Once you will view his work with Modern Dance version of song it is quite ok - this conversion would be more acceptable as it is the "SOCIETY'S" norm

The Angel video actually has very lovely flute work, guitar and melody , and as usual Tahir delivers with the lyrics and meaning behind the song "Mankind's Angel", there is also wonderful classical Piano usage nice touch

Compared to his first song which had a 80's , style usage of Saxaphone etc this delivery is completely different tone and melody

Music is dynamic and its form of expression are ever changing

If every one created same format of music , it would be boring

To each his own i guess. Quite poor composition for my taste, felt as if he was trying to shove in lyrics to make a song. Good for fun sake, but then i never enjoy songs for satirical purposes. But really good for carrying out soft image of Pakistan and for that he deserves applause.

I think the only shock factor for Tahir shah is the video and obviously rare to see Accented delivery done by Pakistani

Normaly Pakistani or to some extent Indian society feel that an accented English song is rather not acceptable unless the "ACCENT" is perfect

Society expects that when he opens his mouth , it will not sing a song in English but they expect Urdu or none English song so the local population does not accepts it , or folks like Indian get confused

People have this perception of English Music coming from certain segment of the world and only certain "Melodic delivery model" is acceptable

But Musicians will tell you Music is dynamic , changes region to region

a) Needs lyrics
b) Melody
c) Rhythm
d) Playback
e) Composition etc

It is difficult to walk the Path in the opposite direction to the direction of River stream sorta speak and that is what Tahir shah does

If he was singing a traditional QAWALI or some other local variation sitting in Majlis , of course there would be no SHOCK factor

The shock factor is really that he not only writes good lyrics , he composes the music organizes it delivers the good , and self markets the videos (by uniqueness of the videos)

If he used Models , skinny girls , or hired a model actor guy , and hid behind the camera so we would not who Tahir shah is , most people would not complain that much

But he said , I will have the long hair , I will have flair , I will star in my own video and I will sing my way , and he further challenged and said I will get my video viewed by 15 Million people in 3-4 days
