The Russian Defense Ministry plans to increase the size of the Airborne Forces in two times - to 72 thousand troops. It is expected that the reform will be completed in 2019.
As part of the state armaments program until 2025 Airborne receive more than a 1.5 thousand new combat vehicle BMD-4M

and over 2.5 thousand armored transport "Rakushka".

Planned rearmament of airborne units will start from next year.
