With the closing of the year of 2016 has brought about surprises throughout.
The World was divided along the lines of Team Captain America or Team Tony Stark.
Captain America revealed he is a Hydra agent.
Not comparable to the surprise American Voters gave to President-elect Donald J Trump. Winning 30/50 States for a total of 62.955 Million votes. While Trump went on a "Thank You" across America. Hillary Clinton and the Democrats looked for scapegoats to blame. Pointing to all the "Millions of voters" she took over Trump, failing to mention the "Millions" came from the Liberal fortress of California, which without would have Trump winning by 1.6 million votes.
But the results are far from certain. Trump hasn't been handed the mantle of responsibility, yet. The 30 States afford Trump the potential to receive 306 of the potential 538 Electoral Votes.
Who are these Electoral Voters?
Well they comprise the Electoral College, a mechanism that was written in the US Constitution to elect the President and Vice President of the United States every Four Years. Each State has a number of Electoral Votes based on their allocation of Representatives, based on population of each State, and 2 additional for the Senators, each State is given.
The Popular Vote gives each State's Electoral Voter the desire on who they should cast their vote for. And many States have a "Winner take all" where the candidate that wins the most votes wins the total number of Electoral Votes of that State. But it is far from guaranteed. While the Elector has to cast a vote they don't have to correspond to the wishes of their State's popular vote. So in theory, current First Lady Michelle Obama could be the 45th President of the United States.
There have been millions of emails and correspondents sent to members of the Electoral College. Many asking for them to look at the Popular Vote rather than their State's winner. Some have been sent death threats if they vote Trump.
A question arises, do the Electoral Voters have to vote for their State's Winner? Well.. No. Electors have gone rogue before, faithless elector, though none that have influenced the final results. 29 States penalize deviations in the form of a fine, while 21 States allow them to vote unhindered, and 2 States go further by retracting the faithless elector's vote and recasting them for their State's winner.
But that still leaves the possibility of neither Trump or Clinton receiving the necessary 270/538 votes. On December 19, 2016, Can it be possible that 37 Electors go rogue from Trump?
Voting for Clinton or bringing forward an Republican establishment candidate?
Or even possibly joining ranks with Electors from the Clinton Camp to bring forward a moderate Republican?
If neither Trump or Clinton receive the 270 votes, the House of Representatives decide. And while the Electors are not bound or have a stake on a future in public office, the House does. Many of whom have won reelections or their first election on the coattails of Trump.
This will be see the faithless electors as a paragraph in the history books. And an event that devalues trust in the Democratic Process much greater than Russia's President Putin or the other scapegoats Clinton/Democrats bring forward.
