It has been a great year in the cinema. So much so that 2019 will end as one of the biggest years at the US box office. It has been a year defined by movies of massive events, sequels and superheroes. It has been a year that he saw one of the biggest media mergers in history, with Disney buying Fox in a $ 71.3 billion historic deal. That agreement will define the box office in the coming years and, if 2019 was an indication, rival studies will have difficulty catching up.

At the time of writing this article, ticket sales in the US. They have totaled $ 11.26 billion and the year is projected to end with a total of between $ 11.36 billion and $ 11.4 billion. Currently, 2018 is the biggest year for the sale of tickets in the US. With $ 11.9 billion. In 2016, the sale of tickets in the US. It reached $ 11.38 billion, so, depending on how the year unfolds, 2019 will be located in two or three places. Several titles released at the end of 2017, such as Jumanji: Welcome to the jungle Y The Last Jedi, which extended to 2018 helped boost ticket sales for the year. Overall, movies released in 2017 accounted for $ 958.1 million in ticket sales in 2018. For the sake of comparison, 2019 saw $ 671.6 million in ticket sales from the 2018 releases that were renewed.

Surprisingly, Disney represents seven of the ten highest grossing films released in 2019 in the U.S. Eight, if we count Spider-Man: away from home, which was produced by Disney's Marvel Studios, but distributed by Sony. Avengers Final Game He leads the package with $ 858.3 million. Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, even though it only hit theaters on December 20, it already raised $ 289.7 million, good enough to press U.S out of the first ten of the year. The only two non-Disney movies to reach the top ten were the premieres of Warner Bros. in the form of Joker ($ 333.4 million) and IT Chapter Two ($ 211.5 million).

Disney also had massive hits like Frozen 2, Captain Marvel, Toy Story 4, The Lion King Y Aladdin contributing to the massive year. Around the world, Disney set a new record by becoming the first studio to get $ 10 billion in ticket sales in a single year, a record that will most likely never be exceeded. Other important successes that helped put cigarette ends in movie theater seats in 2019 were Hobbs & Shaw ($ 173.8 million), John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum ($ 171 million), How to train your dragon: the hidden world ($ 160.7 million), The secret life of pets 2 ($ 158.2 million) and Detective Pikachu ($ 144.1 million).

Movies like Quentin Tarantino's Once upon a time in Hollywood ($ 141 million) and M. Night Shyamalan & # 39; s Glass ($ 111 million) represented victories for the realization of original films in a year that was very franchise. Knives outside ($ 89.9 million) and good boys ($ 83 million) also helped in that department. This news comes to us through CNBC.

Not gonna lie, I haven't seen any of those. I get bored easily and then find watching it a task. I'm struggling to finish watching Vikings and people said it was great.

Except for 4 or 5 movies or so in 1029, the vast majority were just rubbish. Just no imagination, just copy and paste. Hollywood seems have lost its touch.

Well Hollywood didn't have a monopoly on rubbish this year. I don't think any foreign movie even broke $50M in non-domestic sales. Even Wandering Earth flopped overseas badly. Netflix buys it to try and prop it up and not a peep on streaming sales.

The Netflix chart is wrong.

The Witcher and Stranger Things 3 should be number 1 and 2.

Because... I haven't watched the rest of the movies on the chart. :P
