Thailand Naval Ships arrive in Sri Lanka on a Training & Goodwill Mission
Two Royal Thailand Naval ships, HTMS "Taksin" and HTMS "Saiburi", with Chief of Staff, Royal Thai Naval Academy, Rear Admiral Teerapong Srisuwan on board, arrived at the Port of Colombo today (05th April 2011) on a training and goodwill mission.
The ships were ceremonially welcomed by the Sri Lanka Navy on their arrival. A special programme has been arranged by the Sri Lanka Navy to enhance the friendly relations between the two Navies during the ships' stay in Sri Lanka.
Chief of Staff, Royal Thai Naval Academy, Rear Admiral Teerapong Srisuwan paid a courtesy call on Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy Vice Admiral Somathillake Dissanayake at the Naval Headquarters in Colombo today (05th April 2011). He was accompanied by Commanding Officer of HTMS "Taksin" Captain Aniruth Sawasdee and Commanding Officer of HTMS "Saiburi" Commander ED Youwananggoon.
Rear Admiral Srisuwan was accorded a token guard on arrival and the delegation was warmly welcomed by the Commander of the Navy. They held brief discussions on matters of mutual interests and bilateral relations. Thereafter, they exchanged mementos as a gesture of goodwill.
His Thai Majesty's Ship (HTMS) Taksin, is a Naresuan Class (FFGHM) frigate and is 120 meters in length. His Thai Majesty's Ship Saiburi is a Chao Phraya Class (FFG/FFGH) Vessel and is 103 meters in length. Both are training ships and have 126 cadets on board each vessel.
