Indian car maker Tata has teased the first vehicle from its new sub-brand Tamo, expected to be a mid-engined two-seater sports car concept, which will debut at the 2017 Geneva motor show in March – according to a new report.

Autocar India reveals the new model will be unveiled on March 7 at the Geneva event, and will be the first product to be developed under Tata’s new passenger vehicles strategy, Tamo, which will act as a testbed for new technologies, business models and partnerships.

Dubbed the ‘Futuro’, the Tamo sports car is the Indian company’s first step towards defining its future mobility solutions.

According to Autocar India, the new model will be similar in concept to the Vauxhall VX220 of the early 2000s, with a production run reported to be limited to around 250 units.

‘Company sources’ allege the Tamo Futuro will be powered by a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine developing around 180hp (134kW), with a target kerb weight of under 800kg to maximise its power-to-weight ratio.

In order to achieve such a low weight, the Futuro is said to rely heavily on a mixture of composite plastics and aluminium. The production version is expected to go on sale by mid-2018.

Tamo Futuro Price in India

As per a report published on Autocar India website, it will be a two-seater mid-engined sports car with an estimated price range of Rs 25 lakh. At this price, this will become the most affordable sports car in India.

Tamo Futuro Launch
While the concept of the car will make its global debut on March 7, 2017 at the Geneva Motor Show, we expect to see its close-to-production model at the 2018 Delhi Auto Expo in February. Its launch is expected to take place in the second half of 2018.

Tamo Futuro Specifications
As far as the engine is concerned, it could be a turbocharged 1.2-litre Revotron that will churn out 180bhp. While the maximum power may not appear as exciting as one would expect from a sports car, the company will try to keep it kerb weight around 800Kg to achieve great power-to-weight ratio. And to achieve this, engineers at Tata Motors will use a mixture of aluminium and plastics. Since there are cost constrains, carbon-fibre or any high price material will not be used.

TAMO, what a fag name. Futuro, even gayer.

Yes the name is really weird

BTW Tata had showcased a twin seat sports car back in 2000 as well

never went beyond concept stage

Tata Aria

Indian conglomerate TATA, a newcomer at Geneva just three years ago, is now selling a sport-ute in Italy and Spain, and will expand into southern Europe and the U.K. with a low-priced subcompact, called the Indicia, this summer. This fetching showcar is based on that car, and power comes from a 138-hp 1.4-liter four. The interior is stylishly trimmed in carbon fiber, including the seat covering fabric.
