Taliban militants have shot dead 21 Pakistani soldiers whom they had kidnapped earlier during an assault on two camps in the volatile northwest of the country.

Officials say the bodies were discovered shortly after midnight in the Jabai area of the Peshawar District. This comes after some 200 insurgents, armed with rocket-propelled grenades and automatic weapons, stormed two government paramilitary camps outside the city of Peshawar on Thursday. Two security personnel were killed and another 23 were kidnapped.

One of the hostages managed to escape and another one was found seriously injured, top local official Naveed Akbar Khan said.

"We found 21 bullet riddled bodies of security personnel a short while ago in an uninhabited area," Khan told AFP. "One was found alive but wounded and admitted to hospital while another managed to escape unhurt."

“The hands of soldiers were tied with rope before they were shot," another government official Gul Shehzad said.

He added that the Taliban had accepted responsibility for the attack.

PESHAWAR: As many as 21 paramilitary soldiers abducted during a militant attack on check-posts on Thursday in FR Peshawar have been killed, Geo News reported Sunday.

Correspondent says the Levies personnel have been shot dead and their bodies have been dumped in Hasan Khel area of FR Peshawar.

He says that political officials and members of local Jirga were sent to the area to retrieve the bodies. All the bodies have been identified and families of the victims have been informed about the killings.

The proscribed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan have claimed responsibility for the killings of security officials.

The shooting of the soldiers came a day after Pakistan Taliban chief Hakimullah Mehsud said in a video message the militants were willing to negotiate a ceasefire deal. However, he refused to disarm.
AFP adds,Taliban militants have shot dead 21 Pakistani soldiers who were kidnapped three days ago in northwest Pakistan, officials said.
The soldiers were abducted from two government paramilitary camps outside Peshawar on Thursday and the bodies were discovered about four kilometres away.

"We found 21 bullet riddled bodies of security personnel a short while ago in an uninhabited area," local government official Naveed Akbar told AFP.

"One was found alive but wounded and admitted to hospital while another managed to escape unhurt."

Gul Shehzad, another government official, said authorities received information just before midnight that some bodies were lying in the wilderness within about four kilometres of the camps.

"The hands of soldiers were tied with rope before they were shot," Shehzad told AFP.

He said Taliban militants had accepted the responsibility for the kidnappings.

They weren't soldiers buddy. They were tribal police men. Anyway, I hope Pak army gets a wake up call and launches a full offensive and wipes these scums out. Enough is enough, too many people have died.

The question is how the terrorist kidnap them in first place? Were these policemens sleeping..? ...or what?

RIP  peace with taliban? f**k that, peace will prevail once we get rid of these fags.

200 of them stormed the check post, there were only 23 police at the post.

If they had guns they could've fight them & call for reinforcements & backups.

Anyways Rest In Peace to Policemens. I hope Police department will make some strategy on how to encounter terrorists if ambushed.

That's what they (policemen) get for taking a reactive approach, when instead they should've been the proactive ones.

Eat or be eaten. Kill or be killed. Unfortunately, that's how the world works.

And one more thing, why do these reports always refer to policemen, paramilitary and EVEN security guards as "SOLDIERS". Are the reporters/authors that desperate to exaggerate the desperation of Pakistan's national security? The mass kidnapping and killing of soldiers isn't as easy as they are trying to make it out to be, even in Pakistan.

It's not that the Levies is unarmed, they are armed with Assault Rifles.Machine Guns,Carbines etc. They also have a professional uniform.
