KILIS, Turkey

Millions of Syrians living in Turkey will have a chance to become citizens of the country that gave them shelter, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced on Saturday.

Speaking in the southern Turkish province of Kilis, which borders Syria and hosts more than 120,000 Syrians, Erdogan said that many of the Syrians now in Turkey want to become citizens of the Republic of Turkey.

"There are steps our Interior Ministry has taken on the issue,” he said.

"We will give the chance to [acquire] citizenship by helping out these brothers and sisters by monitoring through offices set up by the ministry," Erdogan said.

Around 2.7 million Syrians who have fled the civil war in their country are being sheltered at camps inside Turkey.

Referring to the Syrian crisis, which turned violent in 2011 when regime leader Bashar al-Assad cracked down on peaceful protesters, Erdogan said the Syrians had been prevented from governing themselves.

"The organization called Daesh is, in fact, a puppet put forward with this aim. The organization called the PYD, [and] the YGP are subcontractors which were empowered for the same purpose.”

Stating that just as Daesh does not represent Muslims, the PYD and YPG likewise do not represent Kurds, Erdogan said those groups "are tools used for dirty designs on the region by those who hold their leashes in their hands."

About Turkey's attitude toward Syrians, Erdogan said: "Even today we are defending the same principles that we defended six years ago. We are saying the same things."

Syria has remained locked in a vicious civil war since early 2011, when the Assad regime cracked down on pro-democracy protests with unexpected ferocity.

Since then, more than 250,000 people have been killed and more than 10 million displaced, according to UN figures.

The conflict in Syria has now driven more than 4 million people – a sixth of the country’s population – to seek sanctuary in neighboring countries, making it the largest refugee crisis for a quarter of a century, according to the UN.

What a great leader MashaAllah. King Salman should take notes. There are tens of thousands of expatriates living in KSA since decades and they are still being treated like second class citizens. Either give them nationality or teach Saudis some manners.

He's smart. He knows that Turkey will be facing a demographic problem in future. By giving citizenship to Syrians, he is delaying the Turkish demographic winter as much as he can

Seems like someone is desperately seeking for new voters, one day his rule will end and someone will need to pic up the trash he has left.

It's Ramadan and he's is appealing to the religious feelings of his support base among conservative Turks. Are you really surprised? I personally don't believe a single word.

Beyond that, we already assimilated hundreds of thousands of Turkish Arabians in SE. They're literally gone. Tell me, do you know one Arabian Turk, who does speak Arabic or considers himself as an Arabian?

We Turks commonly don't realize that the Turkish identity appears indeed very attractive to the average Arabian. But we should not forget that our citizenship law is very harsh.

Conditions for Application

Article 11 –
(1) An alien who wishes to acquire Turkish citizenship shall;

a) be in the age of majority and have the capacity to act either according to his/her own national law or, if he/she is stateless, according to Turkish law,
b) have been resident in Turkey without interruption for five years preceding the date of his/her application,
c) verify his/her determination to settle down in Turkey with his/her manners,
ç) have no disease constituting an obstacle in respect of public health,
d) be of good moral character, ( :D )
e) be able to speak a sufficient level of Turkish,
f) have income or profession to provide for maintenance for himself/herself and his/her dependants in Turkey,
g) have no quality constituting an obstacle in respect of national security and public order.

And there should be rules ensuring the Turkification process.

1. Use of Latin alphabet.
2. Turkification of the name (for example: Mahmoud -> Mahmut; Ahmad -> Ahmet)
3. New Turkish surname.
4. Commitment to the free, democratic, secular state with the rule of law.
5. Prohibition of Arabic in public space.

Beyond that, we already assimilated hundreds of thousands of Turkish Arabians in SE. Do you know one Arabian Turk, who does speak Arabic or considers himself as an Arabian?
I do, visit Şanlıurfa and please, cut such ugly crap of yours. I am sure, you wouldn't dare to say these with patriotic people of ours in Şanlıurfa. Your personal hate or thought on a certain group of people, doesn't have to make you salty.
Besides, I doubt that will go any further but if it does, would Turkey benefit and how is the question.

The secret agenda of the zionists is to empty syria so jews can settle there.

They want to proove that they can overcome Allahs will who has expelled them from the holy lands.

The more jews try to illegaly seize the holy lands of Abraham from his descendants the palestinians, the more chaos and destruction Allah is spreading over them. But Allah is not responsible for the suffering of the people. The kuffar and western seyatin (devils) are responsible.

Allah says in the Quran:"o sons of Adam, when we give you blessings you feel proud and ignorant, but when you suffer you get sad and live in despair. Instead you should pray to your lord for blessing. Truely, man is made out of weakness"

Maybe another militant kafir (unbeliever) like mustapha hamal.

Erdogan lost his trust into Allah and signed a treaty with Allahs enemies and cursed seyatin (devils) . Now he is left without protection by Allah and soon he will lose all his power and wealth.

Allah (subhana wa teala) only helps the pious muslims. Allah u ackbar!
La bi kaybol geri zekali.

good news and was also reported here in italy. That way he helps us in europe and keeps them in turkey, give them options so they dont hang in our fence.

I dont agree with some of his authoritarian ways but this is a good decision. It prevents the issues as have been seen by the palestinians across the various countries.
