Swat Qaumi Jirga supports operation

Monday, May 18, 2009

By our correspondent

PESHAWAR: Expressing satisfaction over the ongoing military operation in Swat, Buner and Dir Lower districts, members of the Swat Qaumi Jirga on Sunday asked the government and security forces to take it to its logical conclusion.

“Qazi Hussain Ahmad, Sirajul Haq and Imran Khan should not score political points on the massacre of our children and destruction of our property,” said the Jirga members after its meeting at the provincial headquarters of the Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) here.

“We wish to convey our voice to the participants of the government-sponsored All Parties Conference (APC), scheduled to be held today (Monday), not to pay heed to the voices of some so-called political and religious elements who want an end to the operation in Malakand Division,” the Swat Qaumi Jirga declared.

Besides Jirga members, the meeting was attended by Swat district Nazim Jamal Nasir, Nazim Batkhela Abdul Jabbar, Ayub Khan, Ziauddin Yousafzai and Provincial President of PkMAP Mukhtar Khan Yousafzai.

Briefing the journalists, Mukhtar Yousafzai, flanked by the rest of the Jirga members, said the Swat operation should continue till the militants laid down their arms or were eliminated. “The problem can’t be solved through talks as the government has already conceded much time and concessions. Now it is time to act,” said Yousafzai while voicing strong support for the military action. He said religious or other parties asking for an end to the operation had two options. “Either they are supporting the terrorists or are against them,” said Yousafzai, who also demanded of the provincial and central governments to charge the former commissioner Malakand Division Muhammad Javed and Chief of Tanzim Nifaz Shariat-e-Muhammadi (TNSM) Sufi Muhammad over the killing hundreds of people.

Nazim Swat Jamal Nasir, Nazim Batkhela Abdul Jabbar and Ziauddin Yousafzai said although they were satisfied with the pace of the operation, yet the people of the Malakand Division wanted the elimination of the top Taliban leadership.

“The operation must be quick and targeted. Security forces will win hearts of the people by eliminating the high value targets in Swat,” they demanded. Some of the Jirga members complained that the Taliban FM radio was still operational, creating doubts in the minds of the people of Swat.

The Jirga members appealed to the people to boycott the religious and political parties demanding suspension of the operation and asking for talks with the militants at this crucial time.

They also warned against some elements active in the camps for the internally displaced persons in the guise of welfare organisations. They asked the government to take action against such elements.

we should let imran khan and JUI read this article. tell them that if ppl of swat want this operation to continue then wat exactly is the problem with them.

.
Ditto... The likes of Imran Khan and the JUI are not willing to understand the lethality of the Taliban or the heinous desires they have for our beloved nation.

.
funny part is they want us to talk to fazlullah. wat do they wanna talk about. we know they killed those jirga members who went to them for talks. imran khan should also go with his own jirga along with JI.

we should let imran khan and JUI read this article. tell them that if ppl of swat want this operation to continue then wat exactly is the problem with them.

Their problem wont be solved unless they open their eyes and acknowledge their flawed assessment so far.
Whereas Imran may yet do that, i do not see Qazi ever doing this since he is one of the political Mullahs and we all know how they operate.
JUI is the worse yet since they run most of the madrassas which constitute a fifth column support for Taliban.
Fazl Ur Rehman is the biggest hypocrite in our politics today.
He is on everyone's side and on no one's side!

Their problem stems from the fact that they criticize for the sake of criticism and hope to win support from the so called religious factions.
Whereas in criticizing PA they do not face any fear, if they criticize the TTP they know they will have to fear their enmity.

They have not been given the high office so they always show a typical disdain towards the reasons which compel the heads of state to take action and make tough decisions.

They talk about decisiveness in GOP policy but when it comes to the decision about how to clear the mess created in post Afghan Jihad era they have nothing new to offer in terms of a grand political solution.

When time comes to talk about and condemn the TTP atrocities they emphasize on the root causes of how Taliban spread and do not speak of the TTP and its actions, however same is not true when they criticize PA or GOP.

If i were to pose a similar argument then the TTP rebellion and terrorism is enough of a root cause for State to orchestrate a grand purge of the anti state elements without any care for collateral.

However when it comes to the PA we want every iota of effort to ensure that Army risk itself rather than any collateral...Why these politicians do not judge TTP by the same benchmark is beyond me.

No body including Army wanted a fight within Pakistan but when the time has come to take care of our enemies, politics aside...all should support the action.

These two want to make it seem as if we can reason with the likes of TTP.
They falsely associate TTP with Shariah and a struggle for justice, whereas they falsely associate Army action as just an appeasement of USA.
They talk about the wishes of the locals while ignoring how TTP has massacred the leadership of the locals!

With such a distinct failing in their assessment so far one cannot hope for them to see any reason.

I liked and still admire Imran for all his charity work but he has not shown any acumen in dealing with TTP and seeing the root cause behind the army action.

A revolution does not systematically terrorize and eliminate the very people it is supposed to be popular with...wake up and smell the gunpowder!

Acha, some more great stuff from the PTI fourm...

Look at this, apparently some factions in PTI want to protest against the operation in SWAT...
lets protest > Insaf Forum > Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf

They must be retarded to think like this... Hey idiots, the Taliban is no one's friend and if you keep thinking like this, they wont be a Pakistan left to support your "Tareekh-E-Insaf"...

.
Talabans are basically kids of Afghan Mahajareen. They are hard liners and exteremists. They have destroyed local jirga system of pushtoons , Pakistan is fighting for its servival.

.
its called tahreek-e-Insaf for taliban.
i liked IK but only before he started making these statement. i was in favour of peace deal but now i dont see any point when talibans declared that they wont give up weapons. i think he has been influenced by JI coz thats the only party he hangs out with.
he used to say ppl want shariah so give them shariah. ok. gov did that. now ppl want military operation so shouldnt he be backing military operation. rather they are planin to carry out protest in islamabad. i hate these blind followers who do wateva their leader says
