ISLAMABAD: A Supreme Court bench on Wednesday suspended the special licences granted to Arab Royals to hunt endangered Houbara Bustard in Balochistan, ARY News reported on Wednesday.
The apex court three judges bench headed by Chief Justice Jawwad S Khawaja moved to ban hunting of the bird.
During the hearing Attorney General of Pakistan argued that Houbara Bustard was not an endangered bird. Upon which Justice Qazi Faiz Essa remarked this did not mean that the government starts issuing licences to hunt the bird.
Chief Justice Jawad S. Khawaja also ruled that hunting of Houbara Bustard has been declared illegal by Balochistan’s provincial government and the High Court has also given a verdict in this regard. Federal government could not interfere in the provincial matters according to eighteenth amendment, he said.
