How about giving children time and taking the out for exercise. Rather then controlling things which are very temporary in nature, i.e. try and control your child's diet after a certain age, teach them to live a healthy life with exercise and give children proper meals 3 times a day with a balanced mix of all food groups and let them snack on what they want.
The issue of obesity is linked to sedentary lifestyle more then any diet.
