Sri Lanka discusses regional security with Indonesia

Sri Lanka's External Affairs Minister Prof. G.L. Peiris had bilateral discussions with his Indonesian counterpart Marty Natalegawa on regional security and counterterrorism recently.

Minister Peiris met the Indonesian Foreign Affairs Minister on the sidelines of the 18th held in Bali, Indonesia on July 23, an External Affairs Ministry statement said.

At the retreat of Foreign Ministers, Prof. Peiris has addressed his colleagues on some aspects of regional security and counterterrorism, with particular reference to the experience of Sri Lanka.

At the meeting chaired by Indonesian Minister Natalegawa, the foreign ministers have discussed, among other topics, security themes in Asia including confidence building and prevention diplomacy, non-proliferation and disarmament, maritime security, transnational crime, climate change and cyber security

The foreign ministers gathered in Bali at the largest conference also discussed food and energy security, conflict resolution and management, regional architecture, and disaster management.

Prof. Peiris has discussed current Sri Lankan issues on the sidelines of the conference with some of the participating heads of delegation, including Minister of External Affairs of India S.M. Krishna, Minister of Foreign Affairs of China, Yang Jiechi, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia, Dato Anifah bin Haji Aman, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan, Ms. Rabbani Khar, Minister of Foreign Affairs of New Zealand, Mr. Murray McCully, and Singapore�s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. K. Shanmugam,.
