What's new

SpaceX Starship SN5 successfully takes off and lands

This is very nice.
My only aesthetic for rockets is: the bigger the better!

. . .
i think in future there will be no need of parachutes for astronauts returning back from space

. . .
these space shuttles were highly expensive for repeated space missions that is why spacex has come up with new design and method for achieving similar goal
Still trying to play catch up to the 1970's NASA wizardry of the Space Shuttle

Those space shuttles were very advanced for their time.

The problem was that they were incredibly complicated machines way ahead of their time with millions of parts and hundreds of km of wiring. This was all before the microcomputer age. They would have to carefully inspect much of it after every mission.

Really hope NASA can revive these master of pieces with latest technologies.

I think we need a machine in the middle ground of a Space Shuttle and a StarShip.
A Shuttle that can land like a VTOL F35 instead of deadsticking a landing down a long runway.

Why? I think a Shuttle land like a normal plane is the best way to land? Safe and save fuel?
I even imagined one day a shuttle can take off like a plane to certain height before igniting it's rocket engines.
I remember I USSR had one such prototype.

How's that going to help you on the moon or Mars.
