Gas theft: SNGPL yet to recover Rs 8b

ISLAMABAD - Despite the tall claims of the arrest of gas thieves and recoveries from the culprits involved in theft, the Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited has yet to recover an amount of Rs 8,077 million from the consumers (thieves) of main 13 cities including two cities of KPK and eleven cities of Punjab, the sources told The Nation on Tuesday.
During its campaign against gas theft, SNGPL detected 35,760 consumers (thieves) who dented an amount of Rs 4409 million in the head of gas theft to the utility company, the sources added. These consumers including commercial, industrial and residential managed the gas theft of volume of 3,118300 (Hm3), the sources added.
According to details, the capital of thickly populated province of Pakistan (Lahore) stood first in the ranking of gas thieves as it has a number of 16,944 thieves who managed the theft of gas amounting Rs 1.28 billion, the sources disclosed.
In the same way, the other provincial capital (Peshawar) succeeded to have the second position in gas theftas it has a total sum of 4695 thieves who booked the gas theft amounting Rs 280 million, the sources said. The Manchester of Pakistan and the industrial city (Faisalabad) stands on third position in gas theft with its scores of 2863 gas thieves who managed the theft amounting Rs 573 million, the sources added.
Similarly, the main industrial city (Gujranwala) took forth position in gas theft with its total numbers of 2569 gas thieves who managed the gas theft amounting Rs 473 million, sources added.
The famous city for rice production (Sheikhupura) took fifth position in gas theft with its gas thieves numbers of 2452 who stole gas amounting Rs 744 million and the famous city of saints and shrines (Multan) stands on sixth column with its gas thieves numbers 1807 who managed the gas theft of amounting Rs 346 million, the sources added.
Rawalpindi stands on lucky seventh position with its gas thieves numbers of 1484 who managed the theft of amounting Rs 385 million and followed by the federal capital (Islamabad) that stands on eighth position with its gas thieves numbers of 915 who managed the theft of gas amounting Rs 167 million, the sources added.
Bahawalpur took ninth position in gas theft with its numbers of 876 that managed the theft of gas amounting Rs 43 million, followed by the City of Eagles (Sargodha) that stands on tenth position in gas theft with its numbers of 554 that managed the theft of gas amounting Rs 55 million, the sources added.
Another main city of KPK and tourist capital of Pakistan (Abbottabad) took eleventh column with its numbers of gas thieves 318 who managed the gas theft amounting Rs 6.8 million, followed by the city of Sohni (Gujrat) with its numbers of 172 gas thieves who stolen gas of amounting Rs 37 million, the sources added.Sahiwal stands at the thirteenth position with its gas numbers of 111 who managed the gas theft of amounting Rs 13 million, the sources said.
On the direction of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in May 2013, Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) recovered Rs 3.2 billion from 35,670 gas thieves, sources added. Similarly, the said utility gas company took action against its 49 employees who were punished on the charges of gas theft and the company initiated disciplinary enquiries against its 53 employees allegedly involved in gas theft, the sources added. These employees were involved in gas theft as they misused their authorities while installing the illegal meters of gas and supported the gas thieves, the sources added.

In the news it was reported a power plant was raided in Sheikhupura

It generates 6.5 M watt power and supplies it to local factories

They have done a gas theft of 12 billion Pakistani rupees


That what i heard clearly 12 arab rupees but the news is not repeated anywhere since than

There is no denying that gas theft happens in Punjab as well. However, the point is that while Punjab government has moved against them. Has there been any other display of political will to act against the gas theft? Be reminded that these are the losses reported by SNGPL which manages the gas network to KPK and Punjab. The southern network is managed by SSGPL about which nothing has been reported. Here is something Interesting for your

Now while the Gas theft of whole of KPK and Punjab region is around 8 billion,theft in merely Al-asif square is around 62.5% of the two whole provinces.

The S&M team accompanied by the Customer Relation Department personnel discovered that some 3,000 houses located in Dawood Bachani Goth were illegally using gas through rubber pipes by directly taking connections from the meters.

According to the initial investigations, in these areas, the agents of a powerful mafia directly connected a private supply network to SSGC s main distribution pipelines, offering illegal gas connections to the residents of these localities by charging Rs. 3,000 to Rs. 4,000 from each household. These culprits also charged a sum of Rs. 500 from each unregistered consumer of gas on monthly basis

The Surveillance and Monitoring (S&M) Department of the Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) recently conducted a major raid against the use of unmetered gas in Mehran Town located in Korangi Industrial Area, said a statement issued by the gas utility on Saturday.

According to the SSGC spokesperson, the S&M field staff observed that approximately 50 to 60 meters pipeline was installed through which unmetered gas was being supplied directly to approximately 1,500 houses in the vicinity through T-connections and rubber pipes.

I dont know but i have never seen atleast in abbottabad anyone involved in gas theft
