SLC accuses BCCI of double standard over SLPL

The Board for Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) usually seems like a tough nut to crack when it comes to controversial decisions. The latest such dispute surrounds its refusal to back down on its stance of barring Indian players from taking part in the Sri Lanka Premier League (SLPL) next month.

The ostensible grouse behind this rigid position is that a third private party - Somerset Entertainment Ventures (SEV) - has won the commercial rights of the tournament which leaves the SLC with perceptibly little stake in the tournament's management.

However, the BCCI seems to have conveniently forgotten that IMG, another private company, is involved with the Indian Premier League (IPL), which is run by the India board.

"What they are saying is there is another party involved. There is no logic, " points out Sri Lanka sports minister Somachandra de Silva. "What about the IPL tournament? There is another party involved - IMG.

What is IMG doing with IPL?"

What's even more baffling is that the SLC is just requesting subsidiary Indian players for the tournament while some of Sri Lanka's first-choice players were sent late on their tour of England as they were playing in the IPL4 earlier this year.

"Even our captain didn't go on tour with the team. The captain went after that. So I sincerely hope the Indian cricket board will think about it again and release these players. This is not a long tournament. It is only 16 days, " an exasperated de Silva added.

De Silva even clarified that SEV bears no ties with depsosed IPL chairman Lalit Modi, contrary to rumours that have been doing the rounds.

SL has valid stand. I see it as beginning of IPL fall, not sure if it would be enough. IPL is business for BCCI, so they do not want any competition. IPL is to create wealth for BCCI corrupt officials.

next time srilanka must ban the srilankans to play in IPL. no pakistan, no srilanka, looks like indians will play with kenya zimbabwe next time in IPL

Be careful of what you recommend, it might backfire spectacularly. Last time you tried something like that, Lasith Malinga decided to retire from tests and play in the IPL.

It will not be the fall of IPL.

There will be more Lasith Malingas , if you know what I mean.

forget SLC, bcci even destroyed ICL started by an Indian. What chance does SLC have.

Yeah all these leagues are a bit of an overkill now.

Talk about copy cats:confused:

BCCI is bullying. They have no valid points in denying Indian players from participating in SL league.

They should atleast release the non national players to participate.

Its a good opportunity for the players to make some money and have some useful International experience.

Remember, a players career is only a couple of years, unlike other professions.

we dnt want such substandard players either, dnt u knw tht England, S.A Ausi, NZ, Also play cricket,

For the league to be successful, it's imperative that indians do play in this tournament. Indian TV viewers are the only hope to generate maximum amount of money. Maybe BCCI wants a piece of this pie too & this current stance is just a bargaining chip.

All sports bodies become so corrput its a shame on the name of sport and humans!!!

BCCI is no different!
