SHANGLA: The people of Basi village of Alpuri tehsil have demanded the government to establish a primary school for girls in the area. They said that majority of girls of the village, which had a population of 15,000, were deprived of education.

“Majority of the people here are coalmine labourers, but unfortunately there is no primary school for their girls,” said a resident Tahirullah. He said that some people sent their children to a private primary school. However, their children also had to quit education after the fifth grade, as there is no private or government middle school in the nearby areas.

When contacted, sub-divisional education officer Aurangzeb Khan said that hundreds of girl students were deprived of education due to lack of primary, middle and high schools for girls in the entire area. He said that the valley needed a girls school and the local people also wanted to enrol their girls for education.
