* Chief minister says harvesting target surpassed despite all ‘odds’
Staff Report
LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has said that farmers have achieved record wheat crop by running tube-wells with costly diesel and purchasing fertilisers at high prices from the “commission agents”, which is commendable.
Addressing a public meeting after inaugurating the harvesting of wheat at village Manzoorabad near Wazirabad tehsil of Gujranwala, the chief minister said that the country was facing crisis of electricity and gas due to the poor policies of the federal government, whereas massive corruption was committed in providing synthetic fertilisers to the farmers at high prices, which were vital for agriculture development.
He said that farmers deserved appreciation because despite difficult situation created as a result of excesses of commission agents and increase in the production cost they have produced wheat more than the target.
Shahbaz said the Punjab government distributed 20,000 tractors among farmers in a transparent manner during the last two years, and they were playing an important role in the agriculture development of the province. He said that the distribution of 125,000 laptops among talented students on merit and setting up of IT labs in more than 4,300 schools in the province were revolutionary steps in the education sector.
He said that the educational needs of 30,000 children had been fulfilled through scholarships of billions of rupees in the last four years. He said that criminals and oppressors had been taken to task by posting experienced police officers at divisional headquarters of the province.
The chief minister said that law and constitution were being ridiculed in the country.
He said that corruption of the federal government had made Pakistan a begging country, and permission had been given to kill innocent people for a few dollars. He said that Pakistan was achieved as a result of numerous sacrifices under the dynamic leadership of Quaid-e-Azam, but the present corrupt rulers had ruined it.
“If we have to transform Pakistan in accordance with the dreams of Quaid-e-Azam, we will have to launch a struggle by uniting under the flag of PML-N and the leadership of Nawaz Sharif,” he added.
The chief minister said that only the PML-N had the ability to put the country on the road to progress. He said that the image of country would be restored at the international level, and that a revolution would be brought with the power of the people as a result of which Pakistan would become an Islamic welfare state, and all basic amenities would be available to the masses due to self-sufficiency in every walk of life.
On the occasion, he asked the participants of the public meeting not to be discouraged by hot weather and prepare themselves to come out on the call of Nawaz Sharif. Earlier, Shahbaz inaugurated the harvesting of wheat by driving a harvester and congratulated the farmers. He asked the nation to march forward with commitment so that “our dreams can be materialized”
