The Supreme Court will announce its verdict in the contempt of court case against PML-N leader Talal Chaudhry on August 2.

A three-member bench headed by Gulzar Ahmed had reserved its verdict on July 11. On March 15, the SC indicted Chaudhry for allegedly committing contempt of court. On February 1, CJP Mian Saqib Nisar took suo motu notice of Chaudhry’s ‘contemptuous speeches’ against the judiciary.

“There was a time when the Kaabah was filled with idols and now the judiciary, the country’s highest institution, is also full of PCO idols,” Chaudhry said in a public gathering on January 24, 2018.

“Nawaz Sharif, throw them out, throw him out of the court. They will not give justice but will continue their injustices.”

If found guilty Chaudhry could be jailed for six months or fined Rs100,000, or both. He would stand disqualified, meaning he cannot stand for public office for five years. He lost in NA-102 on July 25.
