LAHORE: The head of Watan Party, Barrister Zafarullah Khan, has moved a petition in the Lahore registry of the Supreme Court seeking a ban on and dissolution of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM).
The petitioner stated that in his recent telephonic address to party workers, MQM chief Altaf Hussain had said, If the mandate given in Karachi is not acceptable, separate the city from the country. He stated that this statement of Altaf amounted to high treason. He requested that Altaf be declared an alien enemy of Pakistan and all media houses be directed to stop airing or publishing his addresses. He also said that Altaf should be tried and punished on high treason charges and be brought to the country through Interpol for trial.
