The US ally Saudi Arabia has signed a deal with China to buy drones that are capable of carrying missiles and laser guided bombs.

The drones Wing Loong (Pterodactyl), which are also capable of using other modern methods of firing, are beneficial to Saudi kingdom in its operation against rebels.

The agreement to sell the UAVs, developed by Chengdu Aircraft Industry Group, was signed within the framework of the visit of the Deputy Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, the second Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Muhammad Bin Salman.

The medium-altitude, long-endurance (MALE) UAV is an effective tool for reconnaissance missions and information monitoring, Arab newspaper Al-Watan reported.

The UAV can also be used for civil tasks such as disaster assessment, meteorological operations, and environmental protection. Wing Loong II, an upgraded version of the Wing Loong, was unveiled at the Beijing Aviation Expo held in September 2015.

In recent years, there is friendly cooperation in the field of technological equipment and staff training as well ,said a member of the Chinese State Council, Defense Minister Chang Wanquan during a meeting with his Saudi counterpart Muhammad Bin Salman.

Saudi Arabia is the main platforms through which China aims to enhance its military as well as political influence in the Middle East, military analyst Viktor Baranets was quoted as saying to Sputnik News Friday.

The military-technical ties between China and Saudi Arabia could have some serious influence on global geopolitics and this could be a matter of concern for the US, the analyst added.

China is beginning to increasingly penetrate the territory of American influence and Saudi Arabia is one of them. Another example is Djibouti, where Chinese military are establishing themselves near the US military base,” Baranets said.

Saudi Arabia is at the front line of the fight against terrorism in the Middle East and has extensive experience in this field. The exchange of intelligence, national defense and security in order to fight terrorism is the important area of cooperation between the two states,” Chinese Professor at the Diplomatic Academy Su Hao said.

Saudi Arabia will use these to slaughter more innocent civilians in Yemen.

I'm happy China got a weapons sale, but I absolutely despise the Saudi regime and its funding and support for Wahabi/Salafi terrorist ideology.

China should sell weapons to Iran.

The missile and bomb dropped by these wing loong are all precision strike. While the cluster bomb sold by western for the F-15 killed even more innocent Yemenis.

US don't expect that move by Saudi and they under estimate Chinese technology advancement of the combat drone.
Actually, I'd say the US completely expected it, especially considering the recent anti-Saudi sentiment in the US right now. Congress is trying to block $1 billion arms deal to KSA, and it will probably succeed, and they recently just passed a bill that allows US citizens to sue KSA for its unproven links to 9/11 attackers.

I thought KSA threatened USA dumping US bonds if the US gonna pass that bill.

It's an non-serious threat, the Saudis would only hurt their own economy. Besides, the US has laws that would slow down or even prevent the withdrawal of such a large amount of capital from the US.
