Mushaf airbase is located in Central Punjab near the Kirana Hills across the river Chenab, it was commissioned in 1959 .Satellite airfields around Sargodha (main Mushaf) are Chota Sargodha (towards West), Bhagtanwala (towards East) and Wagowal (towards North). These satellite airfields, along with the main runways at Sargodha and Kirana Hills are known as the ‘Sargodha complex’ by the IAF and between them houses the highest density of PAF war fighting capabilities.
According to the US the Sargodha complex also includes several underground facilities, including Missile handling halls, large munition storage,Nuclear Warheads and TEL garages,in the Kirana Hills. They are currently being upgraded and additional infrastructure is being added.
SATELLITE AIRFIELDS AROUND MUSHAF AIRBASE
Around a century ago the RAF built many airstrips in this area to facilitate war efforts in Afghanistan and the tribal areas. The genesis of Sargodha and its satellite airfields can be traced during that era, specially the WWII era when all of these airfields got major upgrades. After independence the main focus became to upgrade Sargodha(Mushaf) into US standards. During the 1965 and 1971 wars all of these airfields proved their worth ,where the enemy mistakenly bombed them for Sargodha(Mushaf). Some even had dummy airplanes.
1)Wagowal Airfield
Situated in the North and 22 Kms from Sargodha this airfield played a major role in the Wars. In 1965 a WW II Type 15 mobile radar unit was deployed at Wagowal, and was hooked up to a makeshift Sector Operations Centre located at the Tiwana House in Sargodha cantonment.
2)Bhagtanwala Airfield
Situated towards the East and 28Kms from Sargodha, this airfield has now become an airport ,with occasional domestic flights. During the wars it took the brunt of the attacks, where the enemy mistakenly took it for Sargodha and bombed dummy planes.
3)Chota Sargodha
This is probably the first airstrip RAF built in Sargodha in the village of Godhay wala, it is 16.5 kilometres (10.3 mi) away from the city of Sargodha towards the West.As often the IAF took pride in bombing this airstrip.
There was another airstrip down South near Sial Shareef, now abandoned.
The Enemies of Pakistan have their constant Evil eyes on our PRIDE ,Sargodha and its allied offensive and defensive installations. Our Shaheens based there have always stood up to the occasion with flying colours.May Allah bless them and give them more glory for Pakistan.
