Safari train set to hit the track in KP | DAWN.COM
PESHAWAR, Nov 29: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Sports and Tourism Department will soon run the Abaseen Steam Safari train from Peshawar to Attock, while a memorandum of understanding for establishing a water sports resort of international standard at Khanpur Lake is ready and will be signed by the Sports and Tourism Ministry and Wapda shortly.
This was stated by provincial Minister for Sports, Tourism and Archeology Aqil Shah during a meeting here on Thursday during which infrastructure and developmental schemes of Sports, Tourism and Archeology department was reviewed.
The meeting was informed that Tourism Corporation of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa had, as a gesture of good will, decided to sponsor ferries run at Khanpur by various people and make their engines environmentally-friendly.
The minister said a survey for installing cable car service from Naran to Saiful Maluk Lake had been completed, while the feasibility report of it would soon be presented to the chief minister for approval.
He said TCKP would provide transport and accommodation to tourists at Galayat, Kaghan, Swat, Chitral and Dir.
Mr Shah said the face-lifting of Peshawar Museum would be made, while an artisan village at Gor Gathri would be established and made a tourist centre. He said besides decorating Sethian House, the sewerage line and pavement of streets from Sethian House to Bazar Kalan would also be made.
The minister said Swat Museum had been completed at Swat through the funds of the government of Italy and that the Italian ambassador would inaugurate it on Dec 10, 2012. He said 75 per cent projects of sports department had been completed and the construction work of Abdul Wali Khan Stadium in Charsadda had been underway.
Mr Shah said Abdal Hockey Stadium Civil Quarters would be handed over to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Sports Board after completion of its construction work next month.
