Director General of Centre for Research and Development (CRD) under Ministry of Defence, Major General Prasad Samarasinghe laid the foundation stone for the proposed building complex for the CRD at a function held in Pitipana, Homagama on 16th January 2014.
The proposed building complex will be comprised of office building with all amenities, electronic/electrical wing and labs, IT wing and lab, Machine shop, Research Labs, administration building and fully pledged Officers' Mess.
The constructions of the project will be done by the members of Sri Lanka Army under the guidance of the qualified engineers.
The CRD was established on a concept of Secretary Defence Mr. Gotabaya Rajapaksa. The Hi-Tec Soldier -total web solution, Gampaha geo citizen information system/postal boundary map, artillery gun firing simulator and the small arms firing simulator were some of the innovative projects presented by the CRD.
Senior military officers and members of the CRD were present at the occasion.
