South Korea is prepared to assist Pakistan in its efforts for overcoming the energy deficiency and other economic endeavours. The two countries are enjoying excellent ties and cooperating with each other in number of regional and international affairs. This has been stated by Ambassador Choongjoo CHOI of republic of Korea Friday evening in an informal dinner at his residence in the diplomatic enclave that he hosted in the honour of senior journalists of the capital.

The ambassador had candid chat with the media persons and expressed hope that Pakistan would overcome its current difficulties as the people in Pakistan are very resilient and hard working. Ambassador Choongjoo CHOI said that his embassy has planned to enhance the people-to-people contacts of the two countries and for the purpose he has already send extensive recommendations to his government. Both the governments are also interested to increase the interaction of the people of their respective countries with each other.

The South Korean ambassador termed the last visit of Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani to Seoul as historic one and called it very productive. Prime Minister Gilani visited South Korean capital to attend the Nuclear Security Summit early this year and he also had an extensive meeting with US President Barack Obama on the margins of the summit. He also interacted with number of other world leaders on the fringes of the summit in the trip besides having meeting with South Korean President.

The ambassador of republic of Korea said that Pakistan has fabulous potential to make headway in every sphere of life but the war on terror has inflicted heavy damage to its capacity. Pakistan has rendered great sacrifices both in men and material to eliminate terrorism and extremism from the face of earth. The world is indebted Pakistan for its role in the war, he added.

We need Technology Transfer from these Technological Giants like South Korea. We should be doing Joint Ventures with them so that the projects are finacially beneficial for both the Parties and it brings Technology to Pakistan as a by-Product.

A delegation of South Korean monks is offering prayers at Takht Bhai monestry complex on Tuesday.

PESHAWAR: For Seo Moo Seon, Pakistan is a holy place. He has travelled to the country from South Korea to visit Buddhism’s sacred sites from the Gandhara civilization.

Seo is among a delegation of Buddhist monks who are on a tour to Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa. The team is being led by Park Hee Doo, a former chief in the South Korean army.

Standing by a stupa in Takht Bhai, Mardan district, Seo said his journey was full of discoveries. “Scholars at these monasteries wrote Buddhist canons,” he said.

While Seo said the complex was well structured and clean, he said he wished to see a Buddha statue here. The monk suggested that a statue should be built in South Korea and sent to Pakistan. “It is our duty to preserve these sites.”

On Tuesday, the monks visited the Peshawar Museum, which has the largest collection of Buddhist religious artifacts from the Gandhara civilization after which they visited Takht Bhai.

The museum visit started with a prayer in front of a statue depicting Maitreya Buddha (second coming of Buddha). Director Museums and Archeology, Dr Shah Nazar briefed the monks on sites and relics from the civilization.

Speaking to journalists, senior monk Hang Jeong Sup said the Government of Pakistan has preserved Buddhist monuments, stupas and other holy artifacts very well.

Park Hee Doo also applauded the government for the preservation of Buddhist sites and praised the hospitality shown by the Pakistani people.

Provincial Minister for Culture and Tourism, Syed Aqil Shah welcomed the visitors and said the province is now safe for visitors. “Their (the monks) arrival is a good omen for the province,” he said.
Shah said Pakistan has a lot of potential for religious tourism and the nearly 350 million Buddhists around the world should visit the country.

Later, the delegation left for Swat to visit more holy sites.
