Russia's largest truck maker to open assembly facility in India

Russia's largest truck maker Kamaz said on Thursday it was opening an assembly facility in India on Friday with an annual output of 5,000 vehicles.

"The joint venture has been established using the production facilities of Indian Vectra Group, which is a Kamaz partner," Kamaz said in a statement.

"In March 2009, the partners signed an agreement on the alliance and on the joint venture, Kamaz Vectra Motors Limited, with designed capacity of 5,000 vehicles per year," the statement said.

During the first stage, the joint venture will roll out several right-wheeled truck models using the Kamaz-6540 chassis, and also Kamaz-5460 mainline prime movers, the statement said.

KamAZ is the world's 11th largest truck maker and the eighth largest producer of diesel engines globally. The company has 96 plants in Russia, Poland, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Vietnam, and Ethiopia.

KamAZ produces more than 30 models of trucks, as well as trailers, buses, tractors and spare parts. It also manufactures engines, power units, and components.
