The Russian helicopter-manufacturing industry can successfully compete with foreign rivals, including the United States, Andrei Shibitov, Deputy Director of Russian Helicopter Holding, claimed. The modern Russian Mi-28 and Ka-52 attack helicopters are comparable with the US AH-64 Apache helicopter in their onboard electronic systems, Andrei Shibitov, Deputy Director of Russian Helicopter Holding, told RIA Novosti.
“Ten years ago some of our systems fell short by 10-15 years, but now I can say that our latest projects are practically comparable with our foreign competitors and colleagues. The hardware of the Mi-28 and Ka-52 is definitely as good as the Apache systems,” Shibitov said on the sidelines of a conference in Tatarstan.
He also noted that the Mi-28 and Ka-52 are more than just helicopters; they can be described as “helicopter complexes.”

Established in 2007, Russian Helicopters is one of the world’s leaders in the helicopter-manufacturing industry and the single helicopter designer and producer in Russia. The holding comprises of five helicopter-manufacturing facilities, two design bureaus, repair facilities and a service company. The holding sells helicopters to Russian ministries, airlines and major foreign and domestic companies.
In 2014 Russian Helicopters’ revenues rose by 22.8 percent, to 169.8 billion rubles ($3.3 billion at the current ruble exchange rate). A total of 271 helicopters were delivered.

The Russians offer a great initial deal. Then they have a habit of doing the following:

-Raising the price
-Missing deadlines
Failing to supply spares turning the equipment into a paperweight

The Americans do not have these problems. Better to have working Apaches than Mi 28's sitting in a hangar waiting for parts. The Russians have hurt their reputation in India through past screw ups on the T90s, Vikramaditya, Migs, etc.

Who cares? The IAF has selected the AH-64E (arguably the world's most advanced attack helo) and the IA will follow suit. In the Indian context this state-sponsored Russian propaganda is meaningless- the Apache and LCH are the combo the IA and IAF have settled upon, end of story.

The Americans are great in customer service and even if Russian equipment is as good, they will always fall behind.

If you have seen US Army maintained military hardware, it looks as good as new. Americans have a well established service, repair and customer service system.

Not just customer service but quality too.You better ask your F16 pilots they will tell you the whole story if you don't trust my words.Do ask them the availability of F16 at any given time.

Because there was a mention of customer service, parts and maintenance, I said this.

Quality is not just the overall equipment but quality in service as well. Buying from America is like you buy your stuff here in West. You get full support and great service too.

Once India has Apaches, it will know the whole difference in buying from US and buying from Russia.

i am a big fan of Ka52. Its twin rotor design is revolutionary. Coupled with that elemination of tail rotor which drastically decreases probabilities of accidents caused by tail rotor failure. It doesnt even need a hanger to operate.

But due to lack of proper after sales service plus various other issues like delays & price hike etc Apache 64 D is always a better option. Just love this killing machine. :smitten:
