Russian KBP Instrument Design Bureau Pantsir-S1 integrated onto a DT-10M all-terrain tracked carrier for deployment in the Arctic in the travelling configuration with the surveillance radar lowered. Source: Russian MoD
Russia has displayed a version of the KBP Instrument Design Bureau Pantsir-S1 air defence missile and gun system integrated onto a DT-10PM all-terrain tracked carrier (ATTC) optimised for Arctic operations.
The DT-10PM ATTC, which has a typical load-carrying capability of around 10 tonnes, consists of two units, front and rear, which are joined by an articulated joint to allow for a high degree of articulation while moving across rough terrain, including sand, ice, and snow. The vehicle's 960 mm-wide tracks provide a low ground pressure that allows it to cross terrain that is not passable by conventional tracked and wheeled platforms.
The ATTC fitted with the Pantsir-S1 system has a fully enclosed crew compartment at the front with the powerpack to the immediate rear. To the rear of this is the load unit, which for this application is fully enclosed.
The actual Pantsir-S1 system is mounted on the rear unit and is assumed to have the same capability as the standard system, which normally has two banks each of six two-stage surface-to-air missiles (SAMs) in the ready-to-launch position and two twin 30 mm 2A38 cannons either side of its turret. The latter enable close-in targets to be engaged such as unmanned aerial vehicles as well as providing a secondary capability to engage ground targets out to a range of 4,000 m.
The search radar, tracking radar, and advanced day/night optronics package is mounted between the banks of SAMs and 30 mm cannons. The KBP Instrument Design Bureau has stated that the search radar also has an IFF function, carries out 2D scanning in elevation and azimuth and can detect and track up to 40 targets simultaneously. The tracking radar is a multi-functional radar that carries out target and missile tracking using its phased-array antenna and can guide up to four SAMs at once.
