Russia & Italy team up on engine research
Russia's Rosoboronexport has signed a four-year research agreement with Italian engine maintenance specialist Avio to evaluate new engine technologies.
The research programme will look at designing low-pressure turbines with high-powered profiles that are lighter, quieter and more efficient. It follows on from a previous Italy-Russia research collaboration that took place between 2004 and 2008.
"This new research programme will bring about important benefits for both Avio and the bodies represented by Rosoboronexport," says Avio chief executive Orazio Ragni.
"Through the sharing of the best technologies available today, and the knowledge matured in different sectors, it will be possible to accomplish an important step forward towards the development of future propulsion systems."
