Russia, France, U.S. present new nuclear proposal to Iran
Atomic Energy Organization of Iran Director Ali-Akbar Salehi announced on Monday that Russia, France, and the United States have presented a new nuclear proposal to Iran.
Following Irans decision to produce 20 percent enriched uranium, we received a proposal from Russia, France, and the United States. We are currently studying this proposal and other proposals from various countries, the ILNA news agency quoted Salehi as saying.
The day before Iran started enriching uranium to a higher degree to run the Tehran research reactor, Iran stated that the door was still open for a nuclear fuel swap.
Their proposal will only lead to Iran halting uranium enrichment to 20 percent if they accept all our conditions for the exchange of enriched uranium, Salehi explained.
He also said it was within Irans rights and expertise to produce higher grade uranium.
France has claimed that Iran lacks the technology to manufacture fuel rods to operate the medical reactor.
However, Salehi said, Those who cannot believe we have the ability to produce nuclear fuel will see the proof in the IAEA reports later.
Salehi also gave an interview with the ISNA news agency in which he said that after Iran started producing nuclear fuel to a higher grade, the U.S., Russia, and France presented a joint proposal to Iran.
He did not elaborate on the content of the proposal, but only stated, The proposal is under study.
However, Salehi added, Iran is still ready for a fuel swap without preconditions.
