The participants in the top-level Russian-Egyptian negotiations addressed the situation in Syria and called for prompt negotiations between the parties to the conflict in Syria.
"Russia and Egypt want a prompt ceasefire in Syria and the launch of negotiations in Syria," Russian President Vladimir Putin said after the negotiations.
"Both countries agree that there is a need for a political and legal solution to the crisis in Syria without outside interference," he said.
Russia is one of Syrias 20 major donors with the volume of target contributions over $7mln in 2012, spokesman for the Russian Foreign Ministry Alexander Lukashevich said in Moscow.
He said that this year Russia will allocate over $3mln for this purpose. At the same time, Lukashevich once again expressed grave concern about the aggravation of the situation in Syria.
He pointed out that the humanitarian crisis in that Middle Eastern country has affected 5mln people and the number of refugees has reached almost 1.5mln. The utmost outrage, in his opinion, is the West allocating large sums of money for arming the Syrian opposition instead of rendering humanitarian aid to the afflicted Syrian people.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has said he was pleased and to a certain extent surprised at the pace of improvement in Russian-Egyptian relations, a Voice of Russia correspondent reports.
At the meeting with his Egyptian counterpart Mohammed Morsi in the southern city of Sochi, Mr. Putin said he was astonished to see the number of Russian tourists who opted for Egypt as their 2012 getaway pick up by 30% despite the ongoing turmoil.
Trade turnover between Russia and Egypt rise to 3.5 billion dollars, the president added.
The Sochi meeting comes amid the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations.

Morsi offers Russia to jointly improve Egypts industrial facilities
Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi has offered Russia to jointly modernize several facilities in Egypt, including a metallurgic factory, an aluminum plant and the Aswan high dam.
Mr. Morsi said he saw a great future ahead for Russian-Egyptian cooperation that would combine Egypts experience and Russian technological innovations.
We hope to set up an effective political union with Russia and work together on a range of economic issues, the Egyptian president said today at a Sochi meeting with Mr. Putin.
He added Egypt counted on Russias immense high-tech experience and would readily tap into the pool of its technological know-how to get his country back on track towards an industrial breakthrough.
Egypt has opened many doors for cooperation, citing Russia as one of its major partners.
