out of F-22's AMRAAM range about 100 km.

R-37 air to air missile range 400 km longer than any other air to air missile.

Russia completing R-37M air-to-air missile trials

Kh-59 MK2 air to ground missile range 550 km.

F-22 combat radius 800 km. Without airbase it can't take off. Without tankers it can't stay in the air for long.

The F-22 has a comparatively shorter range - with a combat radius of 800km, while the J-20's large internal fuel tank can sustain a longer combat radius of 1,100km.

It won't be quite as easy to get a su-35 or Mig-31 close enough to launch as you think. First of all the effective range is going to be less than 400 km because Tankers and AWACS are going to turn and dive in the opposite direction. They'll be well aware of a missile launched with a rocket booster even at long range, and in the time it takes the r37m to cross the 400 km at Mach 6 the target would have moved about 60kms away. Effective maximum range against a target moving away at approx mach 1 is going to be about 320-330 kms.

The big threat to the SU-35 or MIG-31 attacking a tanker or AWACS isn't the F-22 alone, it's also the F-35. They'll be used in tandem, with the F-35s an/apg-81 detection range about 400kms. An E-3 Sentry will detect the incoming fighter at about 600kms, so it needs to cross about 280kms to reach effective launch range of 320kms once detected.

If patrolling f-35s and f-22s are for arguments sake 100kms forward of the Sentry, they will only need to move 110kms forward to put the SU-35 or MIG-31 in range of an AIM 120d (180 km range at mach 4). There are a few variables to account for such as relative velocities and vectors and response times, but this puts the MIG/SU at approx 390kms from the Sentry when it is in range of the F-22s AIM 120ds. Its actually going to be pretty close, at full throttle it will cross the remaining 70kms to launch range at about the same amount of time it takes for the AIM 120d to cross the remaining 110 kms to intercept. There is also little to no chance of the MIG-31 or SU-35 surviving whether it manages to launch its r-37m or not.

Tactics would therefore require F-35s and F-22s to be patrolling further forward than 100kms of an AWACS, and probably at least 200 kms forward of a tanker.

How would a j-20 armed with the r-37m fare against US tankers and AWACS? The r-37m is too large for the j-20 to carry internally so it would increase RCS and detection range.
