Ninel Peia, a Romanian deputy from the Social Democratic Party (PSD), submitted to the Parliament a draft bill on introducing voluntary military service in Romania.

“According to my project, girls and boys aged between 18 and 25 can enroll in the army as volunteers for six months. I think this is a very good thing for Romania, considering the current geopolitical situation in Europe,” the PSD deputy told local Digi24.

About 60% of young people in southern Romania would like to enroll in the army, but not as professional military employees, he added. 40% of those living in Transylvania region would like the same thing. “So we’ll have a big influx,” Peia said.

Yes,the bill will most likely pass and i see it as a good thing. Now,this being said ,these are not the Middle Ages where numbers count for everything, these stooges in the politic arena should also equip those soldiers with decent weapons.

This could be very good for improving Discipline and also introducing Nation's Ownership for Romanian citizens. Balkans should start focusing on Military now because this is vital in Building stronger and Strategically more independent Countries in the region which are still on a radar of all the big powers in the World.

As i've said ,if they do this, they must equip and especially train those soldiers.I still remember about the communist and immediate post communist 400k strong Romanian Army which was sending its soldiers to do agricultural labour instead of training them. And then, this is what you get with untrained, undisciplined young soldiers.

One such event was the massacre in Otopeni, on December 23rd. Following a terrible misunderstanding, the airport defense unit opened fire on a convoy of three trucks, killing 50 soldiers who were coming to upsize the unit. Taken for terrorists, those soldiers paid with their lives the poor training of the people in charge with defending the airport, the many flaws in communication, contradicting orders, people’s overexcitement and the impact of rumors.

Spending Six Months in Barracks and doing Military Drills while following Military Daily basis routine for six months are enough to make a slob into Hard working and Well Managed Individual so this program would bring a best out people who have Graduated recently. Romanian Military should definitely improve its training standards no doubt but if they flow the culture that is uniform for Military throughout the World they can make this Program successful.
