Riz Khan - Pakistan's delicate balancing act

.
Lodhi really tears up Christine Fair. Spot on right about the drone attacks - killing more civilians and creating anti-Americanism and Anti-PA. If Parliament decides No to drone attacks - that is the voice of the people and should be considered. Fair admits india's role in Afghanistan, mentions Balochistan, but lets go of the question that inquires about TTP being armed by RAW.

I think Lodhi's comments were divorced from the issue of the civilian casualty count - the overwhelming anti-drone stance in Pakistan arises just as much out of the fact that they are a violation of Pakistani sovereignty as from the impression that there are significant civilian casualties.

If we are to believe Musharraf's comments reported by Seymour Hersh, then Musharraf had indicated Pakistan would conduct these strikes and had asked for the drones to be provided to Pakistan. This has been the position of the current GoP as well.

Given that Pakistan has been willing to conduct these strikes provided it is given the capability to do so, the argument by many Westerners that this is some sort of a last resort or self-defense in the face of attacks from FATA on NATO troops is an invalid one.

The drone strikes are illegal and a violation of Pakistani sovereignty and Pakistanis should continue to oppose them and force the GoP to end its double standards and either get the US to allow Pakistan to operate them or shoot them down.
