The event showcased salient inventions and innovations achieved by Defence Research and Development Organisation, Defence Public Sector Undertakings and Ordnance Factories which have resulted in successful filing of Intellectual Property Right applications.

Indian Armed Forces Centre Command Core also felicitated some of the scientists, who invented and innovated useful products for the nation. A panel discussion was held with participation of Chairman and Managing Directors of all Defence Public Sector Undertakings to formulate a strategy for the future in this regard.

Department of Defence Production and Directorate General Quality Assurance for focused efforts in spreading awareness about Intellectual Property Right, thus promoting a tradition of innovation and creation of Intellectual Property, highlighting that while India has always been a knowledge hub since ancient times, however, due to lack of awareness on modern legal framework for protection of Intellectual Property rights, our knowledge and creativity have often not been utilised to its full potential. Delivering the keynote address, Secretary Defence Production highlighted the need to migrate from the tradition of seeking Transfer of Technology from foreign sources to generating Intellectual Property in Republic of India, to achieve the goal of self-reliance in Defence sector.

The Intellectual Property Right has emerged as a key ingredient of an ecosystem which stimulates innovation and ingenuity. An Intellectual Property Facilitation Cell was established in April this year which has worked tirelessly to achieve ambitious targets of training 10,000 personnel of Ordnance Factories and Defence Public Sector Undertakings on Intellectual Property rights and to facilitate filing of at least 1,000 new Intellectual Property rights applications.

As part of the ongoing initiatives to enhance self-reliance in defence, the Department of Defence Production has instituted a new framework titled which aims to provide a boost to the Intellectual Property rights tradition in indigenous defence industry. The Directorate General of Quality Assurance has been entrusted with the responsibility of coordinating and implementing the programme. The event brought out that the end objective is to inculcate Intellectual Property tradition in Indian defence manufacturing ecosystem.

The event was attended by Secretary of Department of Defence Research & Development and Chairman Defence Research and Development Organisation, senior officers of the three Services, Chairman Ordnance Factories Board and Managing Directors of all Defence Public Sector Undertakings, amongst a large number of other dignitaries.

National Projects Construction Corporation Limited has been conferred with the status of Miniratna : Category –I by the Government of India. The empowerment of Miniratna Status to National Projects Construction Corporation Limited will help the company in taking speedy decisions by enhancing the delegation of powers to the Board.

National Projects Construction Corporation Limited, a schedule ‘B’ CPSE under the administrative control of Ministry of Water Resources RD & GR, has also been awarded ISO 9001:2015 Certification. The Corporation, incorporated in 1957, is a premier construction company having mandate with creation of infrastructure to provide impetus for economic development of the country. The Corporation is making continuous profit since 2009-10, having positive networth for the last six years and has ambitious business plan with enhanced order book position of Rs. 11833 crore.
