Sukh Chan Wellness Club
A relatively new entrant in the health and fitness market in Lahore, Sukh Chan (loosely meaning peace and relaxation) is not just a gym or spa. It is a full service "wellness club". According to the management, Sukh Chan is not just about working out or getting a massage, but getting fit and "well" from head to toe in a world class environment.
Sukh Chan is a venture of Nina Akbar and is co-managed by her daughter Nadia Akbar, along with an international team of health and fitness experts and trainers, plus top notch local and international management talent. Careful planning and execution is a trademark of the Akbar family. Nina Akbar's husband, Mahmood Akbar, is the legendary restauranteur, famous for his highly successful Salt-n-Pepper chain of restaurants. Sukh Chan is no exception - from the minute you enter the place, you are struck by how thoroughly and attentively each facet of the facilities has been designed. From the structure and layout, you move on to being impressed by the variety of activities Sukh Chan offers for its members. The quality of planning is second only to how well the staff has been recruited and retained - boasting several international trainers, an in-house nutritionist, and the best management talent to make sure that the place runs as smoothly as if it were still making a good first impression!
For personal fitness, Sukh Chan offers a first-rate gym, several classes including yoga, aerobics, meditation, pilates, and reiki. The club has a swimming pool and squash courts as well. There is also a sauna and steam room.
In addition, you can go to Sukh Chan for a variety of light exercise/recreational activities like snooker, table tennis, cards, and even chess. The star attraction here is a 40-seat theater, where you can watch DVDs from the club's collection or even bring your own (as long as they meet quality and decency standards, of course!)
To top it all off, there is an excellent cafe with a carefully selected menu for all day dining, without piling up those dreaded calories! The food at this restaurant is the same as all Salt-n-Pepper restaurants in taste and quality, i.e. excellent!
Sukh Chan is a members-only facility, except for the restaurant which is open to the public. Certain classes are also made available for a fee to non-members. The Sukh Chan life time membership runs around Rs.500,000 and there are nominal monthly dues for facilities. Sukh Chan also offers temporary memberships for visitors, starting at around Rs.15000 for one month, and ranging to Rs.60,000 for six months.
