QUETTA: Balochistan Chief Minister, Nawab Sanaullah Khan Zehri Thursday approved mass transit train system for the provincial capital and instructed the Divisional Superintendent (DS), Pakistan Railways to furnish the working paper and PC-1 of the project.
The cost of the project is estimated Rs. 2 billion.
DS Pakistan Railways, Quetta Division, Hanif Gul gave briefing to the Chief Minister on the project and said that it would be a joint venture of Pakistan Railways and the Balochistan government.
"Railway track is always available for the project and we need only locomotive and railcar to make mass transit train system operational in Quetta," the DS Railways said, adding that it would be a model mass transit train system for the entire country.
He said that the project was designed on European mass transit train system.
"Mass transit train will run between Kuchlak and Spizand railways station and railway stations will be built on its track after every five kilometers," he said, adding that these stations would represent state of the art. He said that parks and trade zones would also be built along the track of the mass transit train track.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said that the implementation of the project would provide local people a cheap traveling facility who used to visit Quetta city for routine life activities from outskirts of the provincial capital.
He said that the project would help in reducing air pollution.
The DS told the Chief Minister that the working paper would be furnished by 15th February 2015 and the project would be completed within six months to one year period.
Senator Agha Shehbaz Durrani was also present in the briefing.
