Pakistan Rangers Punjab on Thursday warned citizens against public display of weapons and employment of personal security guards, terming it an illegal practice under the National Action Plan (NAP).

“As per NAP, security personnel from registered government institutions can be deployed,” Colonel Amjad Iqbal said while addressing a press conference in Lahore.

The Rangers officer said the paramilitary force will jointly work with the Punjab Police and strict action will be taken against those found violating the rules. “We will take strict action against private security guards wearing uniforms designated for army, civil or military institutions,” he said.

Sharing the details regarding recent raids conducted by the paramilitary force under the ongoing military Operation Radd-ul-Fasaad, the Rangers official said at least four Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) affiliated terrorists were killed during an operation in which a large cache of arms was also seized.

“Four suicide jackets, one rocket launcher, six rockets, six detectors, four charged boosters and 18 other weapons were recovered from the suspects’ possession.” Further, six other suspected militants were detained in raids in Sheikhupura, Sambrial, and Kharian cities, he added.

Good one, that such ill-fashioned practice to be discouraged and discontinued where influential people use it as a symbol of power.
