In a bid to reach out to its diaspora, the government of Pakistan's Punjab province has set up a separate department that will provide a single-window facility for the people living abroad.
The department, which is currently being dubbed as Office of the Overseas Pakistanis Commissioner, aims at bringing expatriate Pakistanis to the mainstream and addressing their issues that they face while living abroad.
The initiative was taken after several messages received on the Facebook page of Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif from the Pakistanis living overseas, an official said.
"These messages discussed several issues ranging from the ideas and suggestions for the improvement of the government to complaints like property disputes, criminal cases and even the travel agents and airlines related cases.
"The proposed office will be looking at all these matters and many more including the very basic problems that the overseas Pakistanis often have to face," he said.
The government will announce the establishment of this office during the Overseas Convention, which is going to be held on April 28 here.
