US imprisoned activist Mumia Abu-Jamal said that Black Americans and Latinos lost more personal wealth in the last eight years under US President Barack Obama than at any point in Black American history.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Under US President Barack Obama the problems of US ethnic minorities have exacerbated as they have incurred huge financial losses due to the economic recession, a US imprisoned activist Mumia Abu-Jamal told Sputnik.
"Did you know that in the last eight years or so, Black Americans (and Latinos) lost more personal wealth than at any point in Black American history — mostly through mortgage losses?" Abu-Jamal said.
The activist added that Obama's election and re-election both were a "political brilliance," but had "no coattails" due to pressure by white opposition in Congress.
"His election elicited a blowback response among whites that has grown into a challenge to everything he tries to do," Abu-Jamal said.
Police Officers Shot in Ferguson Regain Consciousness
The activist explained that Obama is continuing to lose political influence in Congress.
"He has been bleeding political power since his election and in two cycles lost his majorities in both houses of Congress. The Republicans — the white nationalist party — is making his days harder and harder," Abu-Jamal told Sputnik.
Mumia Abu-Jamal, who is now in solitary confinement, was convicted of the 1981 murder of Philadelphia police officer Daniel Faulkner and sentenced to death. Supporters of Abu-Jamal point to a discriminatory judgment and believe that the prosecution had a political nature.
The United States saw waves of mass protest against police brutality and racism in 2014. The nationwide demonstrations were prompted by the high-profile killing of an unarmed black teenager Michael Brown by a white police officer in August. The officer was not subsequently indicted.
