Case against Musharraf in judges’ detention withdrawn

ISLAMABAD: The complainant in judges’ detention case, Advocate Aslam Ghumman, has decided not to pursue case against General (retired) Pervez Musharraf, who is currently under house arrest.

Addressing a press conference on Friday, Ghumman advocate told that he had decided not to pursue judges’ detention case in the name of national interest as the country was already facing various crisis.

He also said that he made this decision on his own will as there was no pressure by either by Army or Pakistan Muslim League- Nawaz in this regard.

It is pertinent to mention here that on August 11, 2009, FIR was registered against Musharraf on the complaint of Advocate Chaudhary Muhammad Aslam Ghuman.

He had asked the police to initiate a case against the former military ruler for detaining over 60 judges including Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry after he had declared emergency in the country on November 3, 2007.

Earlier, the capital police sent a reminder to Supreme Court, seeking permission to record statements of the judges who were detained by former president Musharraf in connection with the investigation of the case registered against him.

According to the details, the letter was written three days back and sent to the Interior Ministry for onwards dispatch to the apex court. staff report
