The JF-17 is said to be a positive stability fighter, which may limits its maneuverability against fighters that have relaxed stability. While this maybe true, many 4th Gen fighters have positive stability and still enjoy impressive maneuverability.
Which great 4th gen fighters have positive stability and have they found a way to stay competitive with relaxed stability fighters. If I’m not mistaken the MiG-29, F-14 and F-15 all have positive stability but all are still capable of holding their own (with good pilot training) against relaxed stability fighters like the F-16 and Su-27.
One reason maybe higher engine thrust to compensate for the relatively lower lift, as well as use of highly maneuverable missiles as two ways these fighters manage to do it.
Also, have these fighters (MiG-29 and F-15) been redesigned to add relaxed stability into their design?
