Good job. People should be held accountable for their deeds. This will set a very good precedence and send a clear message to all respnsibl epositions. Only if same could be done in civilian government as well.

KARACHI: Almost a year after it was attacked, a military court hearing the PNS Mehran base attack, court-martialed three officers, Express News reported on Monday.

According to details, an investigation team comprising police, navy, air force and intelligence agencies, had found Base Commander Commodore Raja Tahir, Commanding Officer Israr, Air Base Security Officer Lieutenant Commander Absar irresponsible and negligent of their duties.

Sources said that the court had handed down sentences a few days ago, in line with Pakistan Navy laws. They added that the defendants were given equal chances to clear their names.

While they have been sentenced, no details of the extent of their punishments were revealed, except that they were not given a jail term.

As many as 10 terrorists had managed to storm the naval base in Karachi on May 22, 2011. They held off security personnel for 17 hours, destroying two P3C Orion surveillance aircraft in the process. At least 17 personnel were also killed in the attack.

Not those who attacked, but who were attacked.

Army is a little bit less strict, but those officers would have gotten some bad ACRs, some hearing here and there, and career finished.

Although I don't know what exactly happened to them

reducing seniority of base commander 1 year and security in charges 6 months is punishment ? whats impact of this anyone?

Kills his career, punishment enough, and keeps him from advancing to where negligience could do more harm, an example to the rest to pay attention to security matters.

Career finished.

Is this official?

This appears to be a joke. Has any of the top brass ever been convicted/ penalized for their gross misconducts, negligience, cowardness - NEVER e.g.
Coward military brass who let go Kashmir in 1948
Coward generals & their spoons who led Pak Army (Tanks) in a trap in 1965
Coward Armed Forces who surrendered in 1971 (So called martial race - All the fake bubbles bursted then and till now)
Conspirator Air Force Head of East Pakistan who gifted Sabres to BAF in 1971 & awarded a coward pilot (Sq Leader Chaudhry who ran away during a dog fight his 2 mates in East Pakistan)
That idiot Officer who placed order with the same co. in UK from which India had ordered Winter (Cold weather gare)
Cowards who left Siachen posts (Iqbal, Rana, etc) at Bilafond La for Indians
The List is too long. Sorry to say I don't trust these self proclaimed brave hearts any more.

Thanks

^^^ easy to pass judgements from the comforts of our homes...keep on.

The conviction of Naval officers, and letting go of Army officers, this is the wrong aspect of all this... this is how we destroy institutions, because when you have an institution you treat two different categories with same yardstick when it comes down to applying rules of the institution !!

Maybe because this was the first instance in navy that this seems like it.

Don't get me wrong here, in a court martial, always the rules by the book are done or else the investigating officer is in deep trouble. Justice is served.

And no culprit is let go
