KARACHI: Asif Yasin Malik, chairman of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) and secretary defence, has claimed to address and resolve around 90 percent of the issues and problems being faced by the national flag carrier in a year, according to a statement on Friday.

During his visit to the PIA headquarters, the PIA chairman said that PIA fleet would soon be revamped with the addition of modern and younger aircraft on lease. “The aircraft are being procured with absolute transparency by a committee. The bid opening process was also witnessed by the Transparency International Pakistan,” said Malik.

He emphasised upon the PIA team to accord maximum travel facilitation to the passengers, according to the statement.

During the visit, Malik held three interactive sessions with the PIA pilots, senior pursers and airhostess and aircraft engineers and said that he had accepted the responsibility with clear intent and a capacity to serve on sensitive appointment and high pressure jobs with the administrative experience.

He would serve PIA in the best interest of the passengers, keeping in view his personal experience as a passenger with deep association with the airline, said statement.

of course Elections are near so such statements would not be strange to eyes

Lets hope so, PIA went from being the best to one of the worst in a free fall. Besides staged problems by foreign elements our own people in top management positions including president display a new level of incompetency never seen around the world, one of the reason Pakistan is where it is right now.

I honestly dread whenever my relatives have to fly PIA. Hopefully this feeling would change soon.
