PESHAWAR: Pakistani schoolchildren who donated money for US presidential candidate Barack Obamas campaign are demanding an end to bombings in the Tribal Areas, calling for the Democrat to provide us education instead of bombing our land.
Uncle Obama, we expect peace from you, read a placard held by the group of nine children who donated $261.
The children six boys and three girls aged between eight and 13 told journalists at the Peshawar Press Club that their small donation for Obamas election campaign was meant to highlight the unrest in NWFP and FATA. We have arranged this donation to invite Obama to play his role in resolving the problem, said one of the boys.
Reading out a statement, one of the children said, We express our sorrow over the deteriorating situation, the bombings and the displacement of families. He said children were one of the worst-affected segments of society, because of the senseless violence. The children said they did not know who was behind the violence and the reasons for it, but they had been told the unrest is a result of flawed US policies. They said they had therefore decided to collect the funds to give a practical shape to Obamas campaign slogan change we need. The children said they wanted the US authorities in Pakistan to send the $261 to Obama on their behalf. daud khattak
