The Permanent Secretary for Defence Mr Chian Chie Foo is in India today and tomorrow to co-chair the India-Singapore Defence Policy Dialogue with India's Defence Secretary Shashi Kant Sharma.

During his visit, Mr Chiang will call on Indian Defence Minister A K Antony and meet with Chief of the Air Staff Air Chief Marshall N A K Browne. He will also be visiting the Western Air Command.

Mr Chiang and Mr Sharma will also renew the bilateral agreement for joint military training exercises in India between the countries' two armed forces on July 11.

The signing ceremony will be witnessed by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.


The bilateral agreement, which was first established on Oct 9, 2007, allows the Royal Singapore Armed Forces to continue its joint military training at Kalaikunda Air Force Station for another five years.

The annual dialogue, which was inaugurated in March 2004, is in its eigth year this year and serves as a forum for both countries to discuss areas of defence cooperation and strategic developments of mutual interest.
